IVTwelve – August Member of the Month

This month we spoke to Jody Smith, the powerhouse that is behind the small but beautiful salon on the High Street, IV12. Jody took over the empty premises which was Macrae Travel 3 years ago and has transformed it with blood, sweat and tears. Here we hear from her and the 3 other girls who work from the salon.

Jody specialises in Nails, permanent make up (powder brows and lip blush), body piercing and laser treatments (tattoo removal, hair removal, carbon facials, acne treatments etc)  Lena, Erin and Ellie and their specialities are listed below.

Jody says: “We have such a great team here at IV Twelve. All starting in the salon at different times, everyone has gelled very well. We all work together, help each other when needed and keep the salon running as well as it does. Couldn’t have asked for a better team in my salon. Lena

I worked in retail for 14 years, 7 years ago I decided I wanted a change. Trained in a couple of beauty treatments and I’ve never looked back. First job in the beauty industry was at a salon in town then I became self-employed 2 years ago this month, which is when I joined  IVTwelve. I offer gel nails, pedicures, lash extensions and various brow treatments.

I’ve also recently trained in microblading, which I will be starting to offer soon.

I enjoy my job as it’s a way of making clients feel good, you meet people of all walks of life and every day is different. I like the social side as well as I’ve made some great friends through both colleagues and clients. Lena’s page is here.

Erin

Hi, I’m Erin, the face behind ECG Massage, proudly located in IV Twelve for just over two years.

With a background with sport such as rugby, athletics, badminton, horse riding as well as a a degree in Sports Coaching and Development.

My journey into massage therapy began after I experienced an injury myself. That experience sparked a deep passion for helping others through recovery, relaxation, and overall wellbeing.

I live by the belief: “Be the best version of you.” Whether you’re recovering from an injury, managing chronic pain, or simply needing a moment of peace and self-care, I’m here to support your journey.

Ellie

I’m Ellie, the face behind “endless beauty” a 20 year old beauty therapist based in Nairn at IVTwelve salon. I offer nails, toes, makeup, facials, waxing, brows, lashes and hopefully some new exciting treatments coming soon!

Growing up I always wanted to do beauty… I love making people feel good about themselves and putting my art skills to work when it comes to nails and makeup! My journey in the beauty industry started when I was 17… I did a year of beauty therapy in collage which then took me into nails afterwards, after a year of working from home in Forres I made the decision to move and work from a salon in Nairn as Nairn is where I would like to eventually live.

In June 2024 I started working in IVTwelve salon along with 3 other very talented girls and I absolutely love it!! I love my job and can’t wait to see where the beauty industry takes me!

Jody

I am Jody, the owner of the Salon, I opened my premises 3 years ago. I have lived and worked in Nairn my whole life. This year I have been self-employed 10 years! I first began doing nails as a teen,  self-taught and expressing my artistic flair through nails.  I then did various training courses, then started my own business in 2015 where I rented a nail desk in a salon and built my business from scratch.

A few years in I decided to further my career into permanent make up, offering brow and lip enhancements. Covid then hit and things came to a standstill…but during and just after Covid I won various awards for my nail creations, showing fine line artwork and making models from various nail products.

After lockdown was lifted I decided I needed extra space to offer the various treatments, so decided to look for a premises. This is when 65 high street became available. I took the jump and signed my lease! Then the hard work began, on the empty shell of a premises. This followed by body piercing then laser treatment courses. Opening the salon has been a dream come true for me, there have been some testing times, but it’s also been very rewarding. I have been extremely lucky to have what I do and I do not regret one bit of it.

I want to feature as Member of the Month to promote my salon and also to promote all the girls as their individual businesses. Although we are a team we are all self employed. Featuring as member of the month will also show people what all treatments we have to offer here at IV Twelve, as some still don’t know.

I would like to promote everything available at the salon but especially my latest, laser treatments. Laser tattoo removal, permanent make up removal, hair removal, carbon facials, acne treatments from teenage to adult and more. To book please call me: 07568 533636

Future plans are to keep running as we do and help and support each other throughout. To keep building our businesses until we all have fully booked diaries. Also the option to move to a larger premises could also be in the future! Finding something suitable and affordable is the challenge. Keeping things affordable for people but still being able to pay our own bills is a challenge we are rising to I feel!

Nairn is a friendly seaside town, everyone knows everyone. Having grown up here this has allowed me to grow business over the years. Starting with friends and family to now having many clients. Everything here is within walking distance which is also a huge benefit, I was also very lucky to find a premises right in the centre of the High Street, where the footfall is at its highest.
