Opt-in membership is available to businesses that either exist out-with the catchment area of Nairn BID, or whose property’s rateable value lies below the £1000 threshold, but still wish to support the BID and receive most of the benefits that members do. As Nairn BID exists for the improvement of Nairn as a whole then supporting the BID can be a valuable way of saying to your customers that you as a business are contributing to making Nairn a better place.
Opt-in members receive the same benefits as other members, they just don’t have the voting rights that levy area businesses do when it comes to the renewal ballot for the BID. For the five year business plan which outlines the main areas of spending and objectives of Nairn BID, please click here.
They can apply for free stalls at our events and markets, benefit from free marketing and promotion (website listing, social media sharing and member of the month), and attend our meetings, business workshops and networking events.
Nairn BID organises street markets along the High Street several times a year. The BID also runs Taste of Nairn, Wheels of Nairn and the Countdown to Christmas events.

Moray Coast Veterinary Group
February 2024
This month we feature the Nairn branch of a significant local employer, the Moray Coast Veterinary Group, which in all employs 62 people in the area.
Debbie and Rachel
We spoke to Debbie Reid, who is joint Practice manager with Rachel Finlayson. She said: “We have 25 years’ experience with MCVG between us having both been veterinary nurses with the practice before becoming practice managers. We oversee all aspects of the business in direct collaboration with the directors and all staff.”
MCVG wanted to feature as Member of the Month for Nairn BID to generally make people aware of them, showcase some positives and shine a light on their employees and business. They are keen to stress they are independent, caring and passionate about what they do, always striving to improve and provide the best service possible.
Decades of experience
MCVG was founded over 60 years ago and has developed into a comprehensive four branch, independent veterinary group covering the length of the Moray Coastline serving both pets and the farming community. They have branches in Lossiemouth, Forres, Nairn and Balloch.
They also place great importance on training and developing within the team at MCVG and supporting and moulding the next generation of vets and nurses. They do lots of inhouse training with internal clinical clubs to external providers and they are a proud training practice having hosted many veterinary nurse students through to completion and are pleased to say most of them have stayed on as nurses. They have an almost constant stream of work experience and extra-mural studies vet students and they now have a veterinary student internship where they host a vet student in longer regular blocks with the aim to support them in their training and if they have a vacancy offer them their first job as a newly qualified vet.
Training
They always strive to keep as up to date and possible with the latest training and treatments available. They have recently been able to offer a more comprehensive service for exotic animals with the addition of a new vet who is completing her certificate in exotics. Some of their vets and nurses have recently carried out a lambing course for clients on the theory and practical tips and advice for successful lambing. It was very popular and they hope to host another in the future.
They are a proudly independent business, and they are always striving to continue to provide the highest standard of care possible for all of their clients and pets. They are continually building their team to provide comprehensive care and provide the widest range of service possible.
They have received a number of nominations for vet nurses and reception staff through the Pet Plan awards. They are also an accredited practice via the RCVS Practice Standards awards scheme in which they voluntarily open themselves up for inspection to prove they provide the highest standards of care.
They have a fantastic client base and enjoy being a well-known business in town. They enjoy looking after all of their clients’ pets and getting to know them all. They really value the wonderful surroundings of Nairn with its sunny micro-climate and they enjoy being in close proximity to local cafes such as The Coffee Station, James’s and Makes by Megs to keep the team fuelled up with essential coffee and cake! As such, they are happy to contribute to the wellbeing of the town as a whole through their BID membership.
