Opt-in membership is available to businesses that either exist out-with the catchment area of Nairn BID, or whose property’s rateable value lies below the £1000 threshold, but still wish to support the BID and receive most of the benefits that members do. As Nairn BID exists for the improvement of Nairn as a whole then supporting the BID can be a valuable way of saying to your customers that you as a business are contributing to making Nairn a better place.
Opt-in members receive the same benefits as other members, they just don’t have the voting rights that levy area businesses do when it comes to the renewal ballot for the BID. For the five year business plan which outlines the main areas of spending and objectives of Nairn BID, please click here.
They can apply for free stalls at our events and markets, benefit from free marketing and promotion (website listing, social media sharing and member of the month), and attend our meetings, business workshops and networking events.
Nairn BID organises street markets along the High Street several times a year. The BID also runs Taste of Nairn, Wheels of Nairn and the Countdown to Christmas events.
If you think your business would benefit by being part of the BID and you would like to join, please fill in our application form. You can also send us a photograph and listing wording for the VisitNairn website.
Opt-in membership starts from £125 a year. Membership runs for our financial year from 1st October to 30th September. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to get in touch – office@nairnconnects.com
A video campaign showcasing all that Nairn has to offer in the run up to Christmas has been created with the aim of encouraging people to shop locally.
Dozens of Nairn businesses will be in the spotlight in one feature advert, and several smaller films will be created to get the message across that the seaside town has everything you need to have a merry Christmas.
The main film has been commissioned by Nairn BID with the team there pulling together the smaller films themselves.
And the initiative even attracted the attention of STV who ran a news story about the advert.
The films have been put in place as a strategy to support the local businesses through this tough trading time and will be run on social media.
Due to restrictions surrounding the coronavirus pandemic Nairn BID has been unable to stage any events this year including the hugely popular Christmas lights switch on. Story continues below pic gallery.

However, Nairn BID hopes the other strategies they are putting in place will help give the local economy a boost.
Lucy Harding, manager of Nairn BID said: “We are absolutely thrilled with the main video and are currently working on the smaller videos. They really do put Nairn and our fantastic businesses in the spotlight and show that we have such a vibrant and varied offering.
“The main film features numerous businesses and highlights what a fabulous business community we have. The business owners themselves really stepped up and we were pleased to get such a positive reaction from them. It was important for us to not only focus on the product, but the people behind the businesses as well, as people buy from people and if it wasn’t for these business owners being so creative and in this difficult time, adaptable, we wouldn’t have such a great offering.”
Lucy added: “We are so disappointed that we cannot go ahead with the Christmas lights switch on this year in the way that we did last year, but it’s just not responsible to do so at this time. However, we are working with Highland Council to get the lights turned on earlier than usual to bring a bit of festive cheer to the town. This will be done quietly and discreetly and we hope that the businesses and the people of Nairn who always come out in force, understand why we must take this course of action.
“Our appeal now to the people of the town, put simply, is to get out and about and take a good look around at all the different businesses and to shop locally, as some livelihoods really will depend on it.”
The films will be launched on the Nairn BID social media from November 2.
